Semantic Data Integration - Sherlock would have approved |
|
'An explosive increase in data ...' - every conference Powerpoint restates this self evident fact. What would really help would be a powerful new way to ask questions of this data without having to write programs or wait for I.T.
The Semantic Web provides exactly this new kind of way to ask questions - see the adjacent video by Dr Vipul Kashyap of Harvard Partners.
SDS is an implementation of the Semantic Web that solves Data Integration problems such as:
- "I have 20+ large Affymetrix spreadsheets and I want to compare fold change and P values across all of them and it currently means hours of cutting and pasting ..."
- "We have GENE data in Oracle, COMPOUND data in another RDBMS, data in a LIMS system and I want to compare all data in one desktop screen".
SDS supports Ontologies - for example SNOMED and GO - to help you establish and share controlled vocabularies in your organisation.
SDS lets you leverage Semantics to help reconcile the difficulties experienced with different names meaning the same thing, or the same names meaning different things in different contexts...
